Custom Plastic Injection Molding
What started with the right tooling and experience has become a nearly 20-year collaboration. Today, Ruco Products, Inc. continues to support Gexpro with consistent quality, efficient processes, and a willingness to adapt.
In 2008, Gexpro became its own entity and a subcontractor to KB Signaling, the owner of the mold. Because we had an established molding relationship, we began working with Gexpro when they became one of the buyers for the terminal blocks.
Our team was a natural fit. Not only did we have extensive experience in this market, we had produced similar products for Alstom’s partner companies. With the mold already in-house, we were well positioned to support this partnership from the start.
Now, nearly two decades later, we continue to manufacture this same product line for Gexpro. In fact, the mold used for these terminal blocks remains one of the oldest tools still running in our facility—a testament to both its durability and our commitment to maintaining long-term customer programs. For this client, we mold six different sizes of the terminal blocks, as well as three other related products.
While the blocks are produced in-house, the threaded inserts are supplied separately by a Gexpro affiliate. We integrate the two components during production. The threaded studs are placed into the mold, and then, the molten plastic is formed around them.
Because Gexpro often requires quick turnaround times, we have developed efficient processes to keep production moving. For example, during assembly, one operator works at the front of the machine while another is positioned at the back. While one person is molding, the other loads 12 inserts into the part. They continue this pattern as they work, trading on and off tasks. This approach helps us maintain a steady workflow and maximize efficiency.
Throughout the life of this program, Ruco has remained flexible and responsive to Gexpro’s evolving needs. Whether adjusting processes, refining workflows, or accommodating shifting timelines, our team has consistently demonstrated a willingness to adapt.
